Fleur and I took a little walk down our track yesterday. It was a warm friendly evening with a buzz from the frogs and crickets. On turning back where the track meats the country lane that passes our property Fleur decided she had to time herself and run back the 300 metres to the house.
I decided that an amble was more appropriate, especially after a hard week.
I turned the corner to see three bright luminous green lights in the grass verge adjacent to the track. I had never seen a Firefly before and at first didn't know what to make of it.
I collected into a jar and took it to the house for closer inspection. Under the lights of the kitchen it seemed nothing special but when thrust into the darkness it became something spookily special.
For the kids some further reading about Fireflies
