In the main part of the Pigeonnaire we have a 10 kilowatt wood burning stove to heat the main body of the house.
We purchased the Supra stove from the Brico in Villereal (situated just out side the town on the Castillonnes road behind the Intermarche).
An interesting point about buying wood burning stoves in France is if you are a tax payer here then you are entitled to a tax rebate of 50% of the cost of the stove and fitting (fitting is refundable provided you have a professional installer do the work.)
For the twin bedroom, we have managed to obtain a rather unusual and attractive stove for the gite.
Even if it is never used the ornamental value is fantastic.
Also remember, if buying or cutting wood for your stove then make sure it is at least been dried for 2 years. 4 cubic metres will cost from 100-150 euros and I think would last a modest house at least one season providing you are economical with the settings.
It pays to inspect the wood at the merchants yard if buying it. If the wood is not seasoned you will find that the chimney will need cleaning very often and a treacle like black tar is formed from the sap.
