Having just returned from the UK I have been surprised to note that in our absence there appears not to have been any rain at all.
This has caused a problem at Les Mirandes and hindered the progress in restoring the greens. Whilst there is a basic irrigation system nothing compares to real penetrating rain and if the soil structure is not replenished regularly the new seed tends to go into a defensive, non growing mode.
In turn this means recovery is curtailed slightly and the narrow window of opportunity is reduced even further.
French farmers have many irrigation systems and on the face of it reservoirs and rivers seem in abundance.
However, just like the UK France has experienced reduced rainfall for the last 2 years and restrictions are in place around the country.
The website Ministere de Ecologie allows you to check on restrictions or total bans. Remember, if you have a well you can water your vegetable patch but if you are under restrictions and your caught then its trouble.
It pays to check it out!
