An alternative to airflex insulation

After the recent delay we are back on track again. The plastic membrane is in place as too is the metal re-enforcing so that we can pour the concrete on Friday.

InsulationI have decided to invest in readymix rather than kill myself mixing up 7 cubic metres of concrete.

Lafarge (who now own Blue Circle) are bringing it at 8.30 and it is hoped, by 11.30 we should be levelled and tamped.

In the meantime, Donna has ventured out. It seems miraculous but after only 10 days she is up and about on crutches so we went shopping for insulation for the roof and fittings for the wood burning stoves.

In the main house we used Airflex but last week we received the Bricomarche catalogue through the post and they currently have on offer a similar product which works out half the price of the Airflex.

The woodburners also seem a bit of a puzzle. There use in France is so widespread you would have thought, getting fittings would be easy. We have visited Leclerc and Bricomarche plus several small iron mongers and not one of them had all of the parts.

In the end we went into a little place in Villeneuve and they were fantastic. The bits will be in on Friday so hopefully I can build the chimney over the weekend.

Incidently, if you need a great website to help with building or servicing a woodburner or chimney then take a tour of this one. Great explanations and pictures to help. Sadly, elswhere on the net the information (unless someone knows different) is lacking.
